Council Member Jesse Chavez-Cordova Announces Re-Election Campaign

Forward, Together

Hello Highland, Friends, and Family,

As I announce my candidacy for a third and final term, this campaign represents more than just an election; it’s a commitment to continue the remarkable progress we’ve achieved together and to champion a future grounded in inclusivity and unity.

Our community has always been resilient, facing challenges head-on and emerging stronger. Together, we’ve transformed Highland into a place where every resident, especially those who haven’t always had their fair share, can thrive. Our achievements speak to this commitment:

  • Street Improvements: Our five-year pavement plan has injected hundreds of thousands of dollars into revitalizing the west side, creating safe, welcoming pathways for all residents.
  • Safe Routes to Schools: We’ve built safe sidewalks that enable our children to travel securely to and from school, ensuring a safer environment for our future leaders.
  • Enhanced Street Lighting: By upgrading to energy-efficient LED lights, we’ve improved nighttime visibility, enhancing safety for everyone in our community.
  • Digital Transparency: We’ve made it easier for every citizen to access important information, ensuring our government remains accountable and responsive.

But our work is far from over. We need to further boost Highland’s economy, provide more low-income housing options, protect our senior citizens against unfair rent increases, and address our homeless population in a humane way that keeps our neighborhoods safe.

This seat has always been your voice—a voice for those cast aside, a voice advocating for inclusion and love over divisiveness. As we look around, we see the shadows of a past that sought to divide us, challenging the essence of equality—whether it’s LGBTQ rights, racial justice, or social equity. We cannot—and will not—let those shadows overtake our light.

Highland, this campaign is about safeguarding our future. It’s about ensuring our city does not revert to outdated mindsets. It’s about continuing to build a community where everyone, regardless of background or belief, can feel at home.

Let’s not just dream about a better future; let’s build it together.

Let’s move forward, together!

Sincerely,
Jesse Chavez-Cordova
